Serpens Species Bacterin

Safety Information

Endotoxin: Free endotoxin is released during the manufacture of any gram negative bacterin. Hygieia Biological Laboratories has perfected techniques to reduce endotoxin levels in all of its gram-negative vaccines. The endotoxin content of the Serpens Species Bacterin is always reported on the label.

Site reactions: Vaccination with the Serpens Species Bacterin may result in an injection site granuloma. These swellings generally resolve within two weeks and do not appear to cause the cow discomfort.

Safety during gestation: The Serpens Species Bacterin has been tested in over 6.500 cows at all stages of pregnancy. No adverse reproductive effects have been noted.

Effects on production: The only trial dairy that noted a slight decrease in milk production in conjunction with vaccination with the Serpens Species Bacterin experiences the same degree of milk drop with "vet check" days. No other trial dairies noted any adverse effect on milk production in association with the Serpens Species Bacterin.

Other systemic effects: No other adverse effects have been noted in field trials or from commercial usage with the licensed Serpens Species Bacterin. However, a slight chance of anaphylactic reaction is possible with any vaccine. Any and all adverse effects associated with use of the Serpens Species Bacterin should be reported immediately to Hygieia Biological Laboratories.
